Well, it’s the final week of the Not Back to School Blog Hop. This week is “A Day in the Life of…”, so here’s a look at what a typical day at our house looks like. Some days I do have a helper who comes in, but this is still how our weekdays usually flow.
6:00-7:00 am
I wake up, do my devotions and check my emails. If I’m lucky little man sleeps till 7, so I can actually respond the the emails and take a shower.
7:00-8:00 am
Hubby leaves for work while little man and I hang out. I look over what I have to do for the day and think about what we are going to eat for breakfast. This seems easy, but it’s not! A typical breakfast here is meat stuffed buns or rice porridge, neither of which satisfy my clan. So breakfast has to be made from scratch each morning, but at least it tastes good :).
8:00-9:00 am
I make breakfast and wake up princess by 8:30 which is not easy to do as she is NOT a morning person. We eat breakfast and then clean up the dishes.
9:00-10:00 am
We head outside for 15-20 minutes to let little man use up some of his energy. Once we come back inside we start with Bible and then I teach the math lesson for the day.
10:00-11:00 am
Princess completes her math assignment independently while little man and I hang out in the other room. Some days if I have it all together we’ll play a game, sing a song and read a book. Other days, I have to spend the time catching up on business stuff. Princess usually finishes by 10:30. I check her assignment while she and little man eat a quick snack and then we move on. Little man gets some crib time (aka playing in his crib so I don’t have to chase him) while princess and I work on spelling, grammar and writing.
11:00 am-12:00 noon
Little man gets released from crib jail time and we do princess’s Latin lesson. Then we do history or science depending on what day it is. Monday, Wednesday and Friday are history; Tuesday and Thursday are science. This takes us about 30-45 minutes. When we are done, I head into the kitchen with little man to figure out what we will eat for lunch. Princess reads her literature assignment for the day during that time, unless little man is getting into too many things. In which case, she plays with him for a bit.
12:00-1:00 pm
We eat lunch with hubby who works close enough to come home for lunch. Then we clean up from lunch and put little man down for a nap.
1:00-3:00 pm
Little man sleeps, I work on stuff for Elemental Science and princess reads or works on her computer.
3:00-4:00 pm
Little man wakes up (hopefully closer to 4pm, but not usually) and we all have a snack.
4:00-5:00 pm
We usually watch a movie or watch the kids play during this time. Hubby also comes home for good by 4:30.
5:00-6:00 pm
I prepare dinner while hubby hangs out with the kids. We eat and clean up from dinner. You’ll notice that a lot of my day is spent on food prep, that’s because nothing here is pre-cooked or canned. The plus side is that we always eat whole foods that are freshly prepared.
6:00-7:00 pm
We take a long walk if the weather is nice, if not we just veg out.
7:00-8:00 pm
Little man winds down with a bath, a story and some milk :). Princess takes a bath with little man or a shower on her own.
8:00-9:00 pm
I put little man down for the night, which can take 5 to 30 min. He’s at the stage where he requires my hair to fall asleep, so I kinda have to be there. While I’m putting him down, princess is getting ready for bed. Once he’s out, I read princess her read-aloud for the day and then she heads off the bed.
9:00-11:00 pm
Hubby and I spend some time cuddling up to our laptops. I usually catch up on emails and read blogs. Then I’ll read a chapter or two from my Education of Me list or another book that I’m reading. We’ll also chat about the day, about what we have coming up or very deep philosophical things :). I’m generally asleep by 11pm, but some days it’s later than that.
