2 YouTube Channels & a Podcast you can use for homeschool science

We live in a digital world.

Smartphones and social media abound.

The great thing is that as homeschoolers we can use technology to our advantage.

These days we can be mesmerized by the eagle as she tends to her nest in real-time. We can listen to the classics with the touch of a button. And we can answer our kids burning questions with a quick Google Search.

I thought that today I would share with you guys three ways we inject a little digital-media in our homeschool science studies!

ACS Reactions

I love, love, love this channel!

Did I mention that I really like the ACS Reactions channel?

Seriously, the two- to three-minute videos are well done and they do a fantastic job of sharing the principles of chemistry (and science) in a way that students get.

Here’s an example:

Ted-Ed

Experts from around the world share different concepts in education on this channel.

There are a fair amount of STEM-related topics and each one that I have seen is very well done. Some are animated with a voice explaining the topic and others are a mix of animation and a lecture.

The videos range from four- to ten- minutes long – just enough to hold your students attention before losing it to something else.

A Podcast for Homeschool Science

Everyday Einstein’s Quick and Dirty Tips for Making Sense of Science

I found this podcast while searching for something else and I am so glad I did!

Dr. Sabrina Stierwalt presents tidbits of science in a fun and interesting way. She tackles tough topics like:

• How mollusks set a new record for strength;
• What dark matter is;
• Science in the kitchen;
• And how we can predict the weather.

Each episode is under ten minutes, so it is super easy to listen to one each week as you eat lunch.

• Read-aloud Revival – I have long believed in the benefit of reading out-loud to your children, but Sarah has inspired me in so many ways with this podcast. Definitely worth taking the time to check it out!
• Homeschooling in Real Life – I have enjoyed listen to Kendra and Fletch as they take a real look at the challenges and benefits of homeschooling!
